Wednesday, March 7th marked a successful Day at the Capitol for the California Workforce Association. The advocacy day saw attendance from 23 Local Workforce Development Boards across California, bringing business partners, one stop operators, and Workforce Development professionals to Sacramento to teach California’s elected officials about the Workforce Development system.

CWA met with over half of California’s 120 legislators in order to advocate for the workforce development system on Wednesday, telling Legislators and staff about the importance of funding AB 1111, a grant program to fund partnerships with community-based organizations and Local Workforce Development Boards in order to serve populations with the toughest barriers to employment. CWA sponsored the legislation last year that passed with overwhelming bipartisan support and was signed by Governor Brown.

CWA members also advocated on behalf of AB 2915 by Assembly Member Anna Caballero, a bill that will allow Local Workforce Development Boards to create Memorandums of Understanding with each other in the face of natural disasters, so mutual aid services may be shared between local areas in the case of tragedy in an affected area.
Day at the Capitol is only the first step in CWA’s efforts this legislative session to support important legislation and budget asks that will have a substantial positive impact on the Workforce Development System State-wide. A special thanks goes out to all CWA members who dedicated time to furthering this effort!
