To All Conference Attendees:

Thank you for choosing to join over 700 of your colleagues in Monterey next week. Here are a few tips to make your experience even better.

If you are driving in, the Monterey Marriott has some unforeseen parking issues that is going to limit parking. You may be directed to the Downtown East Parking Garage ($7 flat entry fee) a few blocks from the Hotel on Washington and Tyler Street (340 Tyler St). Gate operated entrances that accept cash or credit cards. You will be given directions when you arrive to check in if you are staying at the Marriott. If you are staying at The Portola, ignore this!

We have lots of pre-conference sessions starting at 9:00 AM and running until 11:45 AM. Come early and participate. Open at no cost to all attendees. Conference registration opens at 8:00 AM on the Mezzanine Floor Lobby.

Per an email you received today, you will need your cell phone to check in (although analog check in will be available).

Make lunch plans before lunch. The chef at Fin & Field  (in the Marriott lobby) is going to set up a special buffet for attendees at a cost of $16.  Salads, Soup, BBQ Chicken, Corn Crusted Tilapia, Baked Beans, Sauteed Veggies, Spanish Rice, Coleslaw, Potato Salad, Deserts. But there’s also numerous restaurants on the Wharf as well. Opening plenary with Rodney Peete starts at 12:45 PM.

The Weather should be great. Sunny and high of 70 degrees all 3 days. Mid-50’s at night. The beach party will get chilly so bring a sweater, hoodie or whatever will keep you warm. It’s on the beach overlooking Monterey Bay.

Please check into every session you attend quickly and easily by texting 667-222-0009 with a session code word. Number and codes will be provided at each session, or download and print the list now. Session Check-In Spreadsheet MMM 2018

The conference app will be going live soon…see details below for link, and directions.

BEACH BBQ (Wed evening)

There will be a BBQ on the beach (chicken and carnitas etc.), a beach volleyball tournament (starting at 5:45 PM), a live band, and the stunning ambiance of Monterey Bay. There is also a large indoor area (the Beach House) with tables, pool tables, shuffleboard, ping pong and a foosball table for those who want to stay out of the “elements.” It’s about a 10 -15 minute from the Hotel. As mentioned under weather, dress warmly. When the sun goes down (around 7:30 PM) it gets quite chilly. The night ends with s’mores around the fire pits.

If the sound of seagulls and seals is unfamiliar while you sleep, bring your earplugs. They get up early.

Diane Walton will provide a short Pilates class on Wed morning at 6:45pm. It’s worth it, so roll out of bed and join her. No prior experience necessary.

Again, thanks for joining us. Look forward to seeing you in Monterey.
