What is the breakdown of workforce capacity building time at the conference?

Over the 2 and half days that you spend at the California Workforce Association conferences you will find a robust program of Plenary Sessions by some of todays most inspiring Workforce Development Professionals, Thought Leaders, and Champions of the Workforce System. The conference program always includes an hour of deeper dive Mini-Plenary Sessions that take a focused look at 3-4 hot topics of the workforce system that reflect the theme of each of our conferences. Our conference programs offer no less than 50 workshop offerings facilitated by new and seasoned workforce professionals from a plethora organizations and industries. Conference attendees’ then choose from the 50 workshops, 1 workshop session during the 5 round sessions to attend (That is the tough part – their are so many amazing sessions/topics to choose from!)

  • 10 concurrent workshops during each of the 5 rounds of sessions (1-hour workshops per round)
  • 5 Plenary Sessions (1 to 1.5 hours in length per plenary)
  • Multiple concurrent Mini-Plenary Sessions (1-hour for single session attended)
  • Multiple concurrent Pre-Conference Sessions (2-hours for single session attended)

All sessions often have accompanying presentation slides that will be uploaded to the conference web-page post conference as an additional capacity building resource for all conference attendees. 

What is the demographic of WORKCON Conference attendees?

Conference participants are engaged both in policy and program implementation related to education, training, employment and business services at the local, state and national level.

Attendees work primarily for government, non-profit community-based organizations and educational institutions. They work in America’s Job Centers, for Workforce Development Boards, and in workforce and economic development departments, community colleges, charter schools, rehabilitation and county social service agencies and county offices of education, private schools, K-12, apprenticeship programs and business.  

Are there meals provided with my full conference registration?

Below are the meals and snacks that will be provided to full conference attendees. If you have special dietary restrictions you will have the opportunity during the online registration process to notify staff, if you have multiple or non-listed restrictions please email msobala@calworkforce.org, include contact information and dietary restriction details or call 916-325-1610.

Day 1: Late afternoon snack, and Welcoming Reception with heavy hors d’oeuvres

Note: Day 1-3 Meals are not included for the following rate level “Presenter – Not Attending”.

On Day 1 if you are attending Pre-Conference Sessions be sure to grab a quick breakfast on the way into the conference as breakfast is not provided. There will be a short 1.5 hour long break between the pre-cons ending and the Opening Plenary, just enough time for attendees’ to grab a quick lunch on their own before the conference officially starts. 

What are the parking and travel logistics to the conference hotel?

The California Workforce Association does not validate any parking for conference attendees, workshop presenters, exhibitors, sponsors, or special event staff.

Is conference hotel parking validated?

The California Workforce Association does not validate attendee, guest, exhibitor, presenter or sponsor parking for our conferences.

When does registration check in open for the conference?

Conference registration kiosk / desk opens at 8:00 AM, Monday, May 18, 2020 at the Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel. Our conference registration system and kiosk powered by Active Event Technologies makes checking into our 3 yearly conferences as easy as 1,2,3!

     

Note: Pre-Conference Sessions start at 9:00 AM and are FREE and included with your full conference registrations.

When registering please be sure to enter your cell phone number for the device that you will be bringing with you to the conference.

What should I wear?

Conference dress is business casual.

The hotel and conference session space temperatures may fluctuate from large ballroom area for conference plenaries to workshop sessions with 50 attendees in a meeting room, so we suggest attendees dress in layers during the three days of the conference.

I went to WORKCON last year, so should I go again this year?

You bet! Will my contact information or image be shared?

All California Workforce Association conference attendee lists are shared with a few select conference support providers (i.e. conference registration company and conference app provider), we strive to keep attendee’s information private and secure. In addition, we may use video and/or photography of all WORKCON conference functions and attendees for California Workforce Association marketing purposes. 

Will there be an WORKCON conference app?

YES! The WORKCON app will launch about a week before the conference, How To’s and details will be sent to our registration database for the conference – be sure to register with your own email address to get the most up to date conference news and information (The California Workforce Association uses Constant Contact to send out conference information and promos).

CWA’s out-of-state conference rates do not require CWA Membership. In order to qualify for the pricing discount, organization address must be from a zip code outside of California.

Do conference session presenters have to register for the conference?

Yes, the California Workforce Association requires that all our conference attendees register online before the conference, and check-in and print-out a conference badge on-site – this includes those presenters who are not attending conference functions.

Can I register a group from my organization using the online registration site?

The Active Events conference registration portal accommodates registrations for a single attendee to groups of 3 on up. If you are registering a group you will create a single log-in and password for the registrations. You will be able to choose standard registrations, special rates, and presenters, etc for each of your attendees that you enter.

Step 1 – Select the radio button for the Registration Type

Step 2 – Enter the 1st attendees information, (be sure to include the cell phone # for the attendee – they will be using there own cell phones to check into the conference) accept the terms and conditions and click on the Save button. Your 1st attendees information will populate at the bottom of the page.

Step 3 – To enter the 2nd attendees, click on Add Another Person. This will clear the cells and allow you to enter the 2nd attendees information. Click on the Save button, and continue to add attendees.

Step 4 – Once you have completed adding attendees, Click on Finish & Pay button.

Step 5 – Payment; in order to complete the registrations you must select a payment type. Options are to pay with credit card (the registration site accepts only VISA and Mastercard) or you can select the “Invoice Me” option. 

Note: Once you have completed a payment type and paid with credit card or requested invoice you will not be able to add more attendees. Create a new log-in to the active events registration portal using one of the new attendees email address. 

Are there confernce rates to attend just a single day?

No. Currently there are no single day registration rates for our general conference attendees. The only single day rates that are available are for workshop presenters. 

What if I have request(s) for special accomidations or dietary restrictions?

If you require special accommodations please contact CWA on or before Monday, April 3, 2020
